Much to our surprise, Sydney Marie was born January 22, 2009 at about 10:44am and weighed 7 lbs. 13 oz.
As most of you know, we had a c-section scheduled for January 30. Apparently, God had other plans for us and this new little one. Here is her story...
It all must have started Wednesday evening when we were out to dinner. Some labor-like contractions started, and I decided to time them. (We are, by the way, still 3 weeks away from our due date). They were about every ten minutes or so. We finished up dinner and went home. The contractions minimized again, and even stopped before going to bed. Through the night, contractions continued, but they were only about every hour and not significant enough feeling to even consider needing to go to the hospital. Thursday morning John got up and went to work as usual. I wasn't really feeling great and hadn't gotten much sleep, so I stayed in bed awhile and asked Justin to fix breakfast. Meanwhile, I dozed and awoke to a pretty stong contraction at ???. I don't know what time it was! I had called Justin in to get Emily from my room when I realized my water was breaking! Justin called Dad while I got myself to the bathroom. It was quite a whirlwind from there. While I was waiting for John to get home and take me to the hospital, I realized I was pushing through the contractions...still not a huge indication for me, because I have labored and pushed before each of my c-sections before. I just groaned and wondered why I have to go through this every time before a surgery. Just once couldn't I walk into the hospital? I did not figure out that we may not be going anywhere until John was finally home and running around frantically trying to get everything ready. Longer story, short...I finally figured out that this baby was actually moving down, and we were not going to make it anywhere before she was delivered. I don't think John believed me. :o) Anyway, a few pushes later, our baby girl was delivered at home..in the bathroom..with Daddy catching her! The paramedics came, cut the cord, made sure we were ok, and whisked Mom and baby off to the hospital. We spent the night in the hospital and came home again Friday morning. All is well!
Many of you know that it has always been my desire to have a natural delivery, but despite my efforts to "do everything right" or try to control things in some other way, we have always ended up having to deliver by c-section. It was not until I accepted it...decided to make the best of it...and completely gave it up to God that He could fullfill our miracle!
